Many of IAG’s initiatives have been undertaken at elevated political and intellectual levels throughout the region and internationally and quickly attracted funding from sources reflecting the organization’s unusual access and status. A notable example was the 1993 Conference on the Ethiopian Constitution, then undergoing drafting by an appointed Commission, which brought together an exceptional array of academic talent and political weight. Subsequent activities have included Policy Forums, continent-wide NGO Networking, collaboration on regional issues including conflict, and the Nile Basin with IGAD and UNICEF amongst others, highly visible pre-election debates and a recent parliamentary internship programme.

Dr. Justina Dugbazah
This was not an easy project to implement. However, Inter Africa Group was able to successfully maintain strong communication with its partners and make informed decisions on how best to proceed. The organization also made sure to relay these developments to us so that we were well informed on the progress of the different activities. In the end, real change was made to improve the lives of girls.

IAG was founded in 1989. The were United States of America by a group of intellectuals and professionals from Ethiopia and the Horn interested in forming an association to review critical policy issues related to the governance and development priorities of the region. At a time the CSO sector in the Horn was dominated by either humanitarian related issues or ethnically polarized political organizations, IAG was remarkable for its breadth of mission to foster inclusivity and informed debate on important issues.
